Temporary services

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a Doctor but need to see one, you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP Practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local Practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that Practice.

To register as a temporary patient simply contact the practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a Practice in the town or area where you are already registered.

Your named GP

All Patients registered with the surgery will have been allocated a named accountable GP who will be responsible for your overall care. However, you can book appointments with any of the GPs at the surgery. If you have a preference to which GP you are allocated, the practice will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your requests. If you wish to know which GP has been allocated to you, please ask reception at your next visit.

Frequently asked questions

Read our FAQs about registration.

Who is eligible to join the practice?

We accept patients from our local practice area around Bournville and from a wider out-of-area boundary covering much of south Birmingham (including Northfield, Selly Oak, Weoley Castle, Shenley Fields, Cotteridge, and Kings Norton). Please check the map on this page, as our boundary does not follow district or postcode boundaries exactly.

Can I register if I live outside the main practice boundary area?

Yes, in many cases we can accept patients living outside our core catchment boundary as "Out of Area" registered patients. Please note that Out of Area registration is subject to practice capacity and clinical review, and we are unable to provide home visits for patients residing outside our core boundary.

How long does it take for my registration to become active?

Online registrations are typically processed within 1 to 2 working days for online applications and 2 to 3 working days for paper applications. Once completed, your medical records will be securely transferred from your previous GP, and you will be able to book appointments and order repeat prescriptions.

How do I book an appointment once registered?

The quickest way to request an appointment is by completing our online triage form on our website or through the NHS App. Alternatively, you can call our reception team during opening hours.

Can I register if I don't have proof of ID or fixed address?

Yes. In accordance with NHS guidelines, you do not need proof of identity, address, or NHS number to register with a GP surgery.

How do I register my newborn baby or child?

You can register a child using the same online registration form. For newborns, bringing their red child health record book or discharge summary to the surgery helps us ensure their records and immunization schedules are updated quickly.
